Jobs in Tychy for foreigners: pay and permits
Tychy: automotive, food and logistics industries and the rules for legalizing a foreigner's work in one place.
Updated:
Jobs in Tychy for foreigners are concentrated in the automotive, food and logistics industries. Offers mostly cover production work, warehouse work and assembly line work.
What is the minimum pay an employer in Tychy must offer
The minimum wage under an employment contract (umowa o pracę) and the minimum hourly rate on a mandate contract (umowa zlecenia) or service contract are gross thresholds set every year. The current amounts are given in the article on the minimum hourly rate. These thresholds apply in Tychy exactly as they do across the whole country. Plants in the automotive supply chain usually pay above this threshold for line work, because training a new employee costs money and losing a trained worker quickly benefits no one. The specifics of positions in this industry are described in the article on work in the automotive industry.
How to legalize work in Tychy for foreigners: work permit or declaration
For citizens of certain non-EU countries, the employer registers a declaration of entrusting work (oświadczenie o powierzeniu wykonywania pracy) instead of applying for a work permit. The current list of countries whose citizens may work on the basis of a declaration is provided by the district labour office, and it is worth checking before filing documents. Which basis is chosen determines which office handles the case and how long it takes before work can start.
| Feature | Work permit | Declaration of entrusting work |
|---|---|---|
| Who issues it | the voivode | district labour office (powiatowy urząd pracy) |
| Max. period of work on this basis | depends on permit type | 24 months |
| Processing time | 2 to 4 months | registration at the district labour office, not an administrative decision; the office confirms the current waiting time |
From 1 June 2025, the work permit application and attachments are filed exclusively electronically via praca.gov.pl. When documents are missing from the application, the office calls for them to be supplied within 7 days of delivery of the notice. After work starts on the basis of a declaration, the employer has 7 days to report this fact to the labour office (14 days if work did not start on the declared date).
Work outside the automotive industry in Tychy
The market does not end with one industry:
- food processing plants,
- logistics companies serving the southern part of the metropolitan area,
- packaging industry and light manufacturing.
Rates here tend to be lower than at the automotive line, but different industries give more choice of offers. In food processing, work usually means packing, sorting and operating machines on the line, often in cold conditions and under the hygiene requirements in force at the workstation. In warehouses there is also order picking, loading and work with a scanner, and forklift work requires UDT certification. In packaging production, accuracy and readiness for shift work matter, because the machines run continuously. An overview of industries across the whole region is given in the article on the labour market in Silesia.
Getting to industrial zones without a car
Industrial zones lie on the outskirts of the city, so for a night shift it is worth checking whether you can get back by public transport after the shift. Some offers include transport, and we give the rules in the offer description. How to calculate the real time and cost of such a commute across the whole metropolitan area is described in the article on commuting to work in the Silesian metropolitan area.

Frequently asked questions
Do you need to know Polish to work in Tychy?
For simple production and warehouse positions, basic communication is usually enough, because occupational safety instructions and line procedures are standardized. Higher positions and work requiring customer contact usually require Polish at a communicative level.
How long does it take to get a work permit in Tychy?
The work permit application and attachments are filed exclusively electronically via praca.gov.pl. The office usually processes the case in 2 to 4 months; for formal shortcomings it has 7 days to request additions from delivery of the notice.
Is it worth working in Tychy or better in Katowice or Gliwice?
It depends on the industry: Tychy is strong in the automotive sector, while neighbouring cities in the metropolitan area offer a different employment profile. The sense of comparing the whole metropolitan area as one labour market is explained in the article on the labour market in Silesia.
This text describes the general rules. What you are entitled to depends on your type of contract: an employment contract (umowa o pracę) or a contract of mandate (umowa zlecenie). Your own contract and payslip are what count.
